Managing Safely
The main part of my role is Project Manager in the consumer insights team. I manage the timeline across all of the consumer insights projects which run simultaneously in Levercliff to ensure projects are delivered on time and to budget.
When I am not project managing, I am involved in the research side of consumer insights. This involves anything from launching and monitoring surveys, data analysis, building presentations and delivering them to clients. I particularly enjoy the qualitative side of things, which can involve holding in depth interviews, managing online communities and journals or helping to moderate focus groups.
One of the reasons I love working for Levercliff is the huge variety of companies we work with and the variety in my role. Through the different programmes we run, we work with companies at different stages of their growth journey, from start-ups to renowned, established brands.
I also enjoy the range of projects we work on and the different categories. One week I could be researching stuffed mushrooms, the next I could be working on cereal bars or fresh pizza. It’s also great to work with and learn from a team of highly experienced colleagues who have a wealth of knowledge.
Prior to joining Levercliff, I already had some experience in different areas of the food industry from the graduate scheme that I did after university. I hadn’t specifically done an insights and marketing role, although I had had some exposure and felt that my skill set could be well suited.
It’s great to reflect on how far I have come since joining Levercliff, I’ve been able to progress and grow in my role over the years.
Lauren joined Levercliff in August 2017 after taking a BA Hons degree in English Literature at Bangor University.

I joined Levercliff in 2017 and jumped feet first into the food and drink industry. There were a number of things that attracted me to the role, especially the variety of businesses and categories Levercliff works with.
Additionally, as an Insight Analyst, the role allowed me to develop my skills in the more strategic side of marketing, identifying opportunities for businesses and helping them grow.
Upon meeting the team and getting to know Levercliff a bit more, I saw there were lots of opportunities for me to progress and grow with the business.
During my time as an Insight Analyst I worked across a wide variety of categories, from pies to biscuits to frozen fruit and everything in between. Some of the businesses I worked with included Border Biscuits, PetersPies, Wasabi, VitHit, Golden Casket and Grahams.
In 2023 I became a Category and Cluster Manager, where most of my time is now spent working with clients on their category needs, which may involve analysing industry and consumer trends, assisting on execution of strategies, and looking at overall pricing, promotion, and product range.
The rest of my time is spent with two Welsh GovernmentClusters – Drinks and Sustainability. Here, I work with businesses on a one-to-many basis and help them grow in a number of areas, such as skills, marketing and innovation.
Dan joined Levercliff in January 2023 as Category Director having spent more than 25 years working across different businesses, mostly inFMCG but also covering Household and DIY. He studied Economics at The University of Sheffield (a very long time ago!).
As Category Director at Levercliff my role is to manage the relationships with some of our bigger clients. I help to develop our services to ensure that we always remain relevant, offering the best possible solutions to our diverse client base.
My background in Sales, Marketing and Innovation roles, in addition to Category Management, enables me to bring a broad perspective and set of skill to the many and varied different challenges and projects we work on every day. I’m equally as happy on my feet presenting to groups of Scottish food manufacturers as I am sitting with a client’s commercial teams presenting to buyers in Tesco Head Office, or in their development kitchens working on new products that will meet the needs of the UK’s consumers.
Having worked with big producers for most of my career, the variety of different projects we work on here at Levercliff, with businesses of all different sizes, is the thing that really sets the Category Director role apart. It is genuinely true that no two days are the same, so being agile and able to play different roles
